15 Bible Verses About Gratitude

Regardless of what your current goal or desire is: whether it is to lose weight, be happier, make more money, decrease anxiety – gratitude will help. As Christians, not only are we called to be grateful regardless of our circumstance, but because God is a Good Father, there are endless physical, mental, and emotional benefits to developing an attitude of gratitude.

And when I say gratitude I’m talking about more than just thanking God for the sunrise and the food on your table.

My life certainly hasn’t been filled with yellow bricks leading me to an emperor to grant my wish. In third grade, I started my first diet. It wasn’t just freckle-faced kids my own age who whispered mean names as I walked by. Even the school nurse told me I was “one fat little kid.” Until I turned 38, I allowed my weight to call the shots.

And that’s when my gratitude practice began… at one of the lowest points in my life. See, that’s the most common misconception about gratitude, that things have to be “good” or “perfect” before you can be grateful. The reality is, it’s during the lowest times of your life that gratitude is the most powerful. It has the power to help you earn more money, be healthier, cling to hope, and even find your purpose.

Gratitude laid the foundation of where I am today. For years, I carefully crafted the self-talk in my head and followed the lead of the Spirit to create the life I have today. A daily practice of gratitude has been a massive force for change in my life, and amplified the good I already had but couldn’t always recognize at first.

But, sometimes gratitude can be difficult to muster, especially when it feels like everything is going wrong and you’re not where you wanted to be in life. But, when you’re lacking a spirit of gratitude on your own, there is no better place to seek inspiration for gratitude than the Bible.
After you've studied these scriptures about gratitude, check out these three gratitude practices to add to your morning routine in order to make gratitude a habit in your daily life.

Gratitude Challenge

Now that you’ve read each of the 15 gratitude scriptures, I want to send you with a challenge to help you integrate this into your everyday life. The problem with blogs like this is that often we search them up when we’re experiencing pain, hurt, or discouragement, we read them and they nourish our soul and lift us up, but we soon forget about them and shortly end up right back where we were.

So, to help you carry this spirit of gratitude with you, scroll back through the verses and determine which is your favorite. Which one encourages you the most and speaks directly to your heart? Then, write it on a piece of paper, postcard, or sticky note (or add it to a note on your phone) and place it somewhere you will look everyday – if you have a vision board, that’s a great place to put it.
